The Smart Airport Asset Management solution created in collaboration with IBM allows airport operators to improve the performance of: escalators, moving walkways, baggage handling systems and drinking water dispensers.
Arrow Electronics announces an innovative IoT solution for the intelligent management of airport assets, created in collaboration with IBM.
The solution, based on an IoT sensor and gateway system designed and supplied by Arrow on IBM's IoT Watson® platform and IBM's Maximo® Enterprise Asset Management software, will offer airport operators an advanced operational vision to optimize equipment maintenance , avoiding downtime and improving passenger comfort.
"The solution that we have developed in collaboration with our partners will improve the flight conditions of passengers and is a valid demonstration of the model developed by IBM and Arrow in relation to the potential of the IoT," said Aiden Mitchell, Arrow vice president for the IoT.
The Smart Airport Asset Management solution captures engine temperature, vibration and fluid level data as well as moving parts of escalators, moving walkways and baggage handling systems. In addition, the sensors on the drinking water dispensers measure the temperature, the opening / closing of the doors, the flow and leaks of water to verify their correct functioning. This solution solves the frequent problems that afflict passengers, as attested by the Airport Service Quality report of the Airport Council International.
Data is captured from sensors connected to wireless gateways and then consolidated and analyzed on IBM's Watson IoT platform. The Maximo® IBM portfolio is an advanced industrial offering that creates a more efficient asset management process, using acquired data to manage workflows and resource allocation, as well as allowing you to analytically assess the health of assets to manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
“With data management and analytics capabilities, this end-to-end IoT solution helps improve the performance of airport facilities that impact directly on passengers,” said Adriana Robinson, vice president of IBM Watson IoT. "The solution will allow maintenance workers to predict possible airport equipment failures and to put in place the necessary proactive maintenance processes."
The Smart Airport Asset Management solution is available from Arrow, through its trading partners and from IBM.
