Vertiv's membership aims to contribute and push the continuous improvement of energy efficiency and future sustainability of physical infrastructure
Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, announces that it has joined IDA (Iline DataCenter Association), the first national non-profit association created to become the institutional point of reference for builders, operators and vendors of data centers in Italy.
The data center sector is growing rapidly, due to the ever-increasing number of applications requiring computing and storage capacity, generating a corresponding increase in the use of energy and water resources in data center infrastructures, but the technology is also enabling savings in different areas (for example, the reduction of road traffic and related consumption thanks to smart working methods). The Italian DataCenter Association aims to fully support the development of modern and sustainable data centers, not only by involving the main players in the supply chain but also by promoting training to meet the needs of qualified experts of which the sector, and the entire industry serving and supporting data centers, needs.
“According to the Observatory of the Polytechnic of Milan, Italy ranks fourth in Europe for the importance and growth of data centers, a growth functional to the development of the Italian digital ecosystem” underlines Stefano Mozzato, colocation and hyperscale strategic segment director of Vertiv. “The growth was also amplified by the arrival of the large hyperscalers, a sector which until now had not yet invested in the Bel Paese, preferring the large European cities - Frankfurt, London, Amsterdam, Paris - as they were better served from a of connectivity. To make these investments sustainable, effective and competitive, the data center industry must be attentive to the new solutions that are developed and the customers managed, to provide optimal performance today and in the future. We at Vertiv, as a leader in the innovation, creation and supply of solutions and services for critical digital infrastructures, confirm our commitment also through joining this important association.”
“Today there is no business without digital. Strengthened by this belief, we have decided to create an association that contributes significantly to the digitalisation of the country" - states Emmanuel Becker, president of IDA and CEO of Equinix Italia. Our mission will be precisely to accelerate the digital development of the Italian territory through an increasingly significant presence of data centers. To do this, we intend to work intensely on training, generating new highly professional skills and supporting environmental sustainability.”
The inauguration event of the Italian DataCenter Association took place on March 16, at the Innovation Campus of Peschiera Borromeo in Milan, where Vertiv also has its offices. The initiative is part of a series of multiple activities promoted by Vertiv to support the Digital Transformation of Italian companies, confirming commitment and attention to the development of culture and the data center sector, contributing to increasing the resources available to guarantee the sustainability of one of the most energy-intensive sectors in the world.
