Secure access and greater control of SaaS applications with A10 Networks Cloud Access Proxy

by Grandangolo Communications / Thursday, 24 October 2019 / Published in A10

The new solution optimizes the user experience and provides security with full visibility of application data

A10 Networks (NYSE: ATEN) announced a new Cloud Access Proxy (CAP) solution that provides secure access to Software as a Service (SaaS) applications, such as Microsoft Office 365, making a company's branch offices more efficient through improved performance , more security and a better user experience. In addition, the solution offers complete visibility into SaaS applications for increased security. CAP consists of three components: the new A10 Networks Thunder® 840 CAP appliance for the branch office, high-performance Thunder® Convergent Firewall (CFW) platforms for the Headquarters, and the new centralized CAP Visibility and Analytics solution, which allows you to centrally view information on the traffic of outgoing applications and on the use of those in SaaS mode. Added to these is the CAP solution which ensures that access to data and SaaS applications is fast and secure, while providing complete and centralized visibility of authorized applications and those that have not been approved.

They increase the security challenges for SaaS environments and multi-cloud

Traditionally, enterprise networks were designed to provide users with access to locally hosted applications and services within their data centers. To secure users' access to the Internet and protect them from cyberthreats, a large central security stack was usually hosted with the task of controlling traffic entering and leaving the network. As organizations grew and expanded with more branch offices, they were forced to implement a hub-and-spoke model in which all branch office traffic was redirected to the central security stack for control and enforcement of network access policies.

With the growing adoption of SaaS applications, as well as the rapid shift towards multi-cloud deployments, enterprise networks are changing with WAN edge infrastructure consolidation and migration away from MPLS. Maintaining security and user experience is increasingly difficult in this context.

A10 Networks CAP solves these problems by consolidating several features found in multiple products, such as software-defined WAN, cloud access security connectors, secure web gateways, into a single solution, optimizing and securing the control of SaaS applications . A10 Networks CAP features include:

Local breakout – Optimize branch office traffic using intelligent classification and bypass SaaS traffic from other application traffic.

Next hop load distribution (NHLD) – Allows you to dynamically distribute traffic across multiple WAN connections.

Tenant access control – Serves to prevent data theft between authorized and unauthorized SaaS account holders.

URL filtering – To categorize traffic and protect against web threats.

Application visibility and control – Allows you to dynamically recognize and categorize applications and filter their traffic.

IPsec VPN – To secure Internet and network traffic backhauled from branch offices to the central security stack.

AppCentric templates (ACT) – Allows you to easily implement new branches in one step.

CAP visibility and analytics solution – Provides visibility into the traffic of authorized and unauthorized applications, present in the branch and in the cloud.

“Traditional corporate networks are not optimized to handle the traffic of SaaS applications and the security provided by the vendor of software as a service solutions is not adequate to deal with new cyber attacks and the increase of so-called shadow IT,” said Alberto Crivelli , Country Manager Italy of A10 Networks. “A10 Networks Cloud Access Proxy is specifically designed to help organizations optimize the performance and security of SaaS application traffic.”

The rapid increase in the use of SaaS applications makes the Cloud Access Proxy solution perfect for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) and for companies operating in vertical sectors such as education, legal, finance and manufacturing.

Availability

The complete Cloud Access Proxy solution, which includes Thunder 840 Cloud Access Proxy, Thunder CFW, and Centralized Cloud Access Proxy Visibility and Analytics solution is already available on the market.

The Centralized Cloud Access Proxy Visibility and Analytics solution will be available as an add-on app for the A10 Harmony Controller® in early 2020.
