The Polish travel agency has reduced the costs of updating IT equipment and management services by converting the fleet of obsolete PCs into efficient Thin Clients and administering them through the centralized console
Praim, a global company that develops software solutions for the creation and management of advanced workstations and Thin & Zero Client hardware solutions, assisted Weco-Travel, a leader in business travel management, with a network of offices in Eastern Europe in the renewal of its technology.
Weco-Travel, as a shareholder and exclusive representative of Radius Global Travel Management for the European countries in which it has offices, such as Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Romania and branches in Warsaw (HQ), Poznań, Wroclaw, Gdańsk, Prague, Budapest and Bucharest, ensures its services to customers in over 80 countries around the world. The company needed to standardize the workstations in use with an obsolete operating system, reducing the related costs and maintenance times and protecting data and backups of the workstations.
The main challenge for Weco-Travel was to overcome the lack of standardization of the workstations, mainly made up of PCs with a Windows 7 operating system close to EOS and consequent assistance problems and high maintenance costs. This situation led Weco-Travel to evaluate a VDI architecture. Additionally, rolling out new applications to users was very slow, and creating new workstations for new employees and replacing old or damaged ones took a lot of time for the IT manager.
After having centralized the operating system implemented in VDI with the collaboration of Infonet Project, problems remained to be solved due to the use of heterogeneous PC devices and with a Windows operating system in EOS.
Praim, a company that has always worked to provide the best possible solution for its customers, intervened in the conversion process with the implementation of the Praim ThinOX4PC software to transform PC stations into efficient Thin Clients, the use of Neutrino Thin Client devices with Praim ThinOX operating system, and the integration of the Praim ThinMan management console for the optimal and centralized management of the entire installation.
"Weco-Travel has opted for a license that covers the management of up to 100 ThinOX4PC workstations and has also validated the use of Neutrino Thin Client with ThinOX operating system, to be used in place of excessively obsolete PCs. ThinOX4PC installs the Linux-based Praim ThinOX operating system on customers' desktops, making them immune to viruses and tampering, while the ThinMan management console allows the control, remote management and automation of any operation on machines running Praim software, from turning on endpoints to restoring the software, from monitoring to updating, to accessing remote user support, Weco-Travel's needs were covered and met,” he explained. Among the advantages obtained, Weco-Travel was able to find the optimization of access to cloud environments with full compatibility with the virtualized VMware infrastructure. Also on the user side, the standardization of applications has reduced the number of problems on the workstations and their distribution, with a reduction in related costs and maintenance times and improved employee productivity.
