One in five consumers worldwide use four or more financial technology applications, and 63% of these protect all their devices with security software
ESET, a global leader in the cybersecurity market, announced its global research on Financial Technology (FinTech), which involved a sample of over 10,000 users and senior managers in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Japan, Mexico and Brazil. The interviewees, coming from both the consumer and corporate segments, were asked a series of questions on the topics of FinTech, cybersecurity and their impact on the security of assets in a "COVID-ian" world, particularly in light of the lockdowns imposed by the pandemic.
The research aims to examine a range of issues in relation to the FinTech use experiences of both consumers and businesses, including concerns relating to the security of assets, transactions and financial data, the use and behavior of FinTech apps and business perspectives on the future of these solutions in a post-COVID world.
Regarding the consumer segment, the survey revealed that 40% of consumers worldwide use between one and three FinTech applications, but only half of them have security software installed on their personal devices. Furthermore, 62% of these use a password manager to simplify access to their bank accounts. In comparison, only 22% of global consumers could be classified as “FinTech users”, for using four or more fintech applications.
Among FinTech users, a significantly more advanced 63% protect all their devices with security software. As everyone's lives become increasingly digitalized and we embark on the path out of the covid emergency, it is imperative that the devices and technologies we use to share our most sensitive data are protected to the highest standards.
The FinTech sector will play a vital role in the economic and social recovery after COVID-19 and it has never been more important that FinTech solutions are adequately protected. Consumer and business security is central to ESET's founding principles and global research has been carried out to identify emerging and established technologies that are essential to people's lives and habits. The study also extends the investigation to other technologies, including cryptocurrencies and bitcoin, blockchain, online banking and more.
Fabio Buccigrossi, Country Manager Italy at ESET, commented "We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of technological innovation and security insights and this project is a clear reflection of this. Global FinTech research will allow us to explore attitudes towards emerging and established technology and to bring our offering to both consumers and businesses to ensure they are always protected to the highest standards. We want to help users, both in their personal and professional use, to understand and protect themselves from the risks arising from the use of any type of technology and, to do this, we need to have the exact picture of the trends global technologies".
Starting with this release, ESET's research on FinTech adoption in a COVID world in both the consumer and business segments will be updated with sample demographic information from different countries, via press releases, interviews and blog posts. Much of the research will be published in early 2021.
