Launched multiple activities to support the population and the Ukrainian partner
ESET, a global cybersecurity market leader based in the European Union, in response to the Russian government's shocking decision to invade Ukraine, announces a halt to all new sales to any individuals, companies and organizations in Russia and Belarus. Previously, sales to the government and related entities had already been banned since 2016, when the Russian government introduced tax rules, legislation and certification processes that favored local sellers.
In support of this decision, ESET's integrated response to the invasion is developed on four levels:
Humanitarian support for the Ukrainian population. The ESET Foundation has created an initial fund of 500,000 euros to help the citizens of Ukraine through a mix of direct support and donations to NGOs (in particular the INTEGRA Foundation and UNICEF). As a company and community, ESET has collected employee donations and encouraged its collaborators to actively volunteer in their communities, equalizing humanitarian volunteering activities with working hours, and is also supporting staff members of the Ukrainian partner and their families with direct and ongoing support, including housing, money and consumer goods.
Working closely with the technical support specialists of its Ukrainian partner, ESET has extended customer support to ensure the continuity of services on site. The company is also providing its highest-end products to Ukrainian customers free of charge and extending, at no cost, the soon-to-expire licenses of all customers in the country.
ESET makes its own available security research and insights to the many global and European bodies striving to address, resolve and mitigate cyber threats arising from this conflict. The company is committed to protecting and making the world safer with unique malware telemetry and security insights. All updates released by ESET are shared on the blog WeLiveSecurity and its research centers work tirelessly to increase incident response support. ESET Research is monitoring digital threats that are directly linked to the conflict, starting with an announcement on February 23 regarding the discovery of HermeticWiper, a new data deletion malware that has targeted Ukraine on the eve of the Russian military incursion. Between February 27 and March 1, ESET Research published alerts on charity-related scams who exploit the war in Ukraine and the subsequent discovery of another wiper and a worm component used to spread HermeticWiper. ESET continues to support the cybersecurity of businesses and government organizations, including national CERT teams, within the European Union.
To strengthen this response, the company has updated security solutions for threatened organizations present in the conflict zone, in neighboring states and in those states participating in the international response, should they be subjected to attacks. ESET is also offering new and existing customers internationally the option to add ESET Dynamic Threat Defense, powerful protection against zero-day attacks, for free.
As a European cybersecurity vendor for more than 30 years, ESET has met the need to ensure the diversity of security software available in Ukraine, Russia and around the world. As the largest non-Russian vendor of endpoint protection solutions on the Russian market, ESET does not underestimate the decision to once again stop new sales in Russia and Belarus, however, the company's priority is to further support Ukraine and his people. Therefore, to best represent its position and support for European partners in cyber defense and shared digital security priorities, ESET has decided to move in this direction. Further measures are being assessed and will be announced in due course.
