The number of Cohesity Cloud Services customers grew from fewer than 60 to more than 500 in five quarters; new workloads protected via SaaS are added and the SaaS security offering becomes accessible to a greater number of customers to combat ransomware
On the occasion of Amazon Web Services (AWS) re:Invent 2022, Cohesity, a leader in innovative data management, announced that it is experiencing exceptional growth and widespread adoption of Cohesity Cloud Services. Cohesity Cloud Services, formerly known as Data Management as a Service, is a portfolio of data management and security software as a service (SaaS) products managed by Cohesity and running on AWS.
Cohesity also announced support for new business-critical workloads, including Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3), which can be protected and secured through Cohesity's SaaS offerings. Additionally, in an age of growing cyber threats, Cohesity is offering customers access to more Amazon S3 storage options for its popular cyber vaulting security SaaS offering, Cohesity FortKnox, which can help customers reduce costs.
This announcement demonstrates the momentum and decisive progress Cohesity continues to see after announcing a strategic collaboration with AWS to bring to market a series of SaaS offerings for security and data management, designed to provide customers with exceptional agility, security, scalability, flexibility, cost efficiency and reliability.
Customers are adopting Cohesity SaaS at a rapid rate
Cohesity has seen a significant increase in the number of customers implementing Cohesity SaaS offerings, growing from fewer than 60 customers at the end of the fourth quarter of fiscal 2021 (July 2021) to over 500 customers at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2023 (October 2022). Additionally, nearly 60% of Cohesity Cloud Services revenue comes from companies with revenue of $1 billion or more, indicating that large enterprises are adopting the company's SaaS solutions.*
Cohesity is driving innovation with Cohesity Cloud Services in three areas critical to businesses today: security – including ransomware protection – cloud and data management.
Protection of the world's most critical cloud workloads
Much of the world's critical applications and data reside in the cloud and need to be protected. With Cohesity Cloud Services, customers can further protect their Amazon S3 and Salesforce (SFDC) data via the backup as a service offering from Cohesity.** This complements Cohesity data protection already available for Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS), and other cloud service providers.
Cyber Vaulting as a Service that meets RTO and budget requirements in the era of ransomware
In an era of growing ransomware threats, companies know they need to implement a “3-2-1” strategy, where a copy of the organization's critical applications and data is kept in a separate, “air-gapped” environment. Many customers rely on Cohesity's popular cloud-based cyber vaulting service, Cohesity FortKnox, for data isolation and ransomware protection. However, budgets vary and so do recovery time objectives (RTOs). Cohesity will offer customers options to address these critical needs:
- Cohesity FortKnox su Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access Storage Class (Amazon S3 Standard-IA): For data that is not accessed frequently, but requires quick access when needed. This option is already offered by Cohesity and includes immediate data recovery, with a minimum retention period of 30 days.
- Cohesity FortKnox su Amazon S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval (FR): A new cost-effective cold storage option that offers SaaS cyber vaulting capabilities with recovery times ranging from minutes to hours, with a retention period of 90 days or more**.
With both options, customers benefit from enhanced security that includes virtual air gapping, immutability with Amazon S3 Object Lock, role-based access control (RBAC), quorum, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), and a Cohesity key management system (KMS).
Counter cybercriminals with ML-based threat protection and data classification
Providing protection, detection and recovery from ransomware or other cyber attacks is critical to keeping businesses safe and enabling them to quickly recover with confidence. Announced at Cohesity's ReConnect virtual conference (which you can review who), Cohesity DataHawk is a complete SaaS-based data security solution that includes threat detection and ransomware attack scanning, automated data classification with Machine learning (ML)-based pattern matching – to identify sensitive or critical data – and FortKnox cyber vaulting, all in one easy-to-deploy solution.
The opinions of customers who appreciate Cohesity Cloud Services
"We are the fifth largest school district in the state of Georgia and serve more than 50,000 students in the Atlanta area. We wanted to update our 3-2-1 backup strategy with a modern SaaS offering to improve our cyber resilience and protect against ransomware attacks," said Kurt Pritchett, Senior Network Engineer at Clayton County Public Schools. "The simplicity and convenience of Cohesity FortKnox's SaaS offering was just what we needed to achieve this goal. Cohesity FortKnox also allowed the district to qualify for cyber insurance while realizing greater efficiencies, time and cost savings."
“Hospitals, laboratories and doctor's offices around the world rely on Beckman Coulter diagnostic equipment to provide better healthcare, and secure and reliable data management is critical,” said Kevin Chi, IT Systems Engineer at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences. “We have a cloud-first policy and use Cohesity's backup as a service offering, which has allowed us to reduce our on-premise infrastructure, meet rigorous SLAs, comply with long-term data retention policies and generally improve our data security.”
"To back up on-premise servers and other cloud services, we wanted a cloud-based solution that also provided protection against ransomware. We found the answer to our needs in Cohesity's backup-as-a-service offering that runs on AWS," said Michael Stegall, IT Director at Eurecat. "We can now monitor and manage backups and restores of all workloads, on-premises and in the cloud, from a single user interface, which helps us free up time to focus on other tasks. Additionally, we benefit from fast restores and excellent protection against ransomware, which is crucial in today's environment."
Statements from Cohesity and AWS on the performance of Cohesity Cloud Services
“We are seeing rapid adoption of Cohesity's SaaS offerings running on AWS as customers want to win the war against ransomware, accelerate hybrid cloud adoption, and free up overburdened IT staff to focus on other business-critical tasks,” he said Sanjay Poonen, CEO and President of Cohesity. "Customers also want flexibility in how they protect and manage their data – in the cloud, on-prem, at the edge or hybrid – and with Cohesity, everything can be managed on a single platform, through a single user interface. This is simplification par excellence."
“More and more customers are adopting Cohesity's SaaS offerings that run on AWS to further strengthen data security and management,” he said Ruba Borno, Vice president Worldwide Channels and Alliances, AWS. "We entered into a strategic collaboration with Cohesity with the shared goal of helping customers be more agile, innovate faster, and do more with data. We've made great progress and we're just getting started."
