Cooling Infrastructure Modernization Enables Cloud Hosting Provider NFrance to Reduce Energy Consumption, Eliminate Cooling-Related Water Consumption, and Achieve Greater Operational Availability, Without Any Disruption to Service
Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, announces the completion of its data center cooling infrastructure modernization for digital sovereignty NFrance. NFrance is a leading French provider of cloud hosting, colocation and managed services. The project allowed for an approximately 20% reduction in energy consumption, the elimination of water consumption associated with cooling (WUE = 0) and uninterrupted operational continuity throughout the implementation phase, compared to the functionality of the previous cooling infrastructure.
For nearly 30 years, NFrance has supported organizations on their digital transformation journey with a strong commitment to data availability, security and sovereignty. With the growing diffusion of the cloud and the increasingly critical nature of hosted services, the company needed to modernize its cooling system while maintaining full operational continuity for its customers.
Vertiv and NFrance collaborated to design an integrated thermal chain architecture capable of precise temperature control, energy efficiency and resource optimization. The solution is based on the direct expansion system Vertiv™ Liebert® PDX , equipped with variable speed scroll compressors which allow precise modulation of cooling from 25% to 100% depending on variations in the thermal load. The high performance condenser Vertiv™ Liebert® HPA-HCR integrates new generation EC fans, which promote heat dissipation without any water consumption and with a reduced acoustic impact. The whole system is managed by the intelligent controller Vertiv™ Liebert® iCOM which coordinates all units through the “Teamwork” mode to optimize overall performance.
The architecture includes a double refrigerant circuit with independent condensers, guaranteeing N+1 type redundancy. In the event of a failure of one of the circuits, up to 50% of the capacity remains available, with automatic restart in less than 40 seconds.
The project was supported by Vertiv's commissioning and project management services, together with a contract Vertiv™ Services Preferred Warranty, which offers 24/7 technical assistance with on-site support. This approach ensures optimal operation from day one and prepares the solution to support NFrance's energy performance improvement and business continuity goals in the long term.
"The performance of our hosting services depends on the stability of our infrastructure. By choosing Vertiv cooling solutions, we not only guaranteed 99.99% availability for our servers, but we also significantly reduced our PUE. Since installation we have observed absolute thermal precision, even during peak loads. Less energy consumption, more computing power: a winning choice for our profitability and the planet. Furthermore, Vertiv supported NFrance throughout the project with great professionalism, distinguishing itself by technical quality of the qualification activities, the closeness of the commercial and technical teams and the rigorous monitoring during the implementation,” said Julien Dal, datacenter & infrastructures manager at NFrance.
Roberto Sanchez, enterprise sales director of Vertiv France, commented: "The collaboration with NFrance demonstrates how our comprehensive approach, which combines cutting-edge technological solutions, consultancy skills and local services, can generate concrete and measurable results in terms of operational performance and energy efficiency. In addition to technical performance, what makes the difference is our ability to support customers at every stage of the journey, from initial sizing to preventive maintenance."
