Vertiv won the award for Best Solution in the Energy Efficiency sector to global workshop of Telefónica of Energy and Climate Change

by Grandangolo Communications / Monday, 18 November 2019 / Published in Vertiv

Vertiv's Energy Saving as a Service (ESaaS) model was recognized for the second consecutive year

Vertiv received the "Best Solution in the Energy Efficiency sector" award thanks to the model applied in energy saving as a service (Energy Saving as a Service, ESaaS) during 10th global workshop on energy and climate change organized by Telefónica. In particular, Vertiv won thanks to the project developed for Telefónica's Concepción building in Madrid, where energy consumption was reduced by up to 85% in some technical rooms, saving around one gigawatt of consumption per year.

Every year, people from all the countries where Telefónica has an office participate in the workshop to showcase the most innovative initiatives in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sector, as well as to outline new commitments that can further reduce energy consumption and carbon impact globally. Vertiv was also awarded last year thanks to the thermal management systems installed in one of Telefónica's most important data processing centers in Colombia, near Bogotà, while in 2017 it achieved the recognition of "Best Partner of the Year".

As of February 2018, Vertiv and Telefónica announced an alliance long-term global to improve energy savings and develop customized infrastructure solutions. Following the agreement, Vertiv provides theESaaS in Telefónica's core and access centers, both in Europe and Latin America, covering everything from initial site assessment through to comprehensive maintenance services over the next ten years.

“We reached our energy and climate change goals early, then set even more ambitious new ones to use more renewable energy, achieve greater energy efficiency and emit less CO2", explains Nilmar Seccomandi, Head of Network & System Infrastructure at Telefónica. "To achieve the new objectives it is essential to industrialize the ESaaS model, a challenge that Vertiv accepted two years ago and which led to the technological renovation of the Concepción building by Telefónica, in Spain. We hope that Vertiv will present similar projects for other countries at the 2020 workshop, which will be held in Chile.”

"This recognition that Telefónica has awarded to Vertiv for the second consecutive year confirms Vertiv's commitment to constantly improving energy efficiency and rewards the skills of our collaborators, as well as the quality of the solutions we create. With our contribution, customers commit to acting in a sustainable way in the long term, reducing their environmental impact and realizing significant cost savings in their activities", underlined Fernando García, vice president and general director of Vertiv in Latin America.

Oscar Fenoll, global account manager of Vertiv for Telefónica, added: "The excellent collaboration between Telefónica and Vertiv in the field of energy efficiency is advancing, project after project, enabling energy savings. The three awards conferred by Telefónica in recent years confirm the validity of the path undertaken, now destined to accelerate further, thanks to disruptive models such as ESaaS. In addition to mitigating Telefónica's environmental impact, we are contributing to mitigate the consequences of climate change.”
