Vertiv experts them identify the proliferation of computing hybrid model between the data center trend of 2020

by Grandangolo Communications / Wednesday, 15 January 2020 / Published in Information Tecnology, Vertiv

It is expected that the speed of implementation will become an increasingly critical differentiator

With the beginning of 2020 organizations should slow down more and more debate "company or the cloud" that has literally dominated the conversations of senior management in recent years, in favor of hybrid architectures that incorporate public and private cloud models, and assets related to edge a reconfigured network. This evolving approach to data management and computing resources is one of five emerging trend of data center of 2020 identified by experts Vertiv, Global provider of solutions for the 'IT infrastructure and business continuity.

Trends related to hybrid architectures allow organizations to maintain control of sensitive data, while meeting the surge in demand for greater capacity and functionality of computing closer to the consumer. As the connectivity and availability become joint concepts in the new data ecosystem, it will be awarded the fluid communication from cloud core to get edge of the network.

"What is emerging a new balance in the data center, as the sector faces challenges on the side of capacity and advanced applications that require significant changes to data centers of all shapes and sizes," said the CEO of Vertiv, Rob Johnson. "At the same time, the speed of deployment is becoming a turning point in the technological decisions and probably will shape investment and innovation in this space over the course of 2020. This will be manifested in many ways, but the message to date equipment providers center is clear: the status quo is not acceptable. "

The following are additional details on the hybrid computing and other trends identified by experts Vertiv.

  1. Hybrid architectures are increasingly common: Despite cloud computing will continue to be, in most organizations, an important part of IT strategy, we are seeing a slight change her as firms seek to adapt the mix and IT spending to the needs of their applications. As we increase the presence of these hybrid architectures, in fact, it is increasingly clear that the corporate data center is alive and in good health, even though its role is changing to reflect a mix that best meets modern organizations.
  2. The speed of deployment is the new "arms race": With the standardization of the functionality of technologies and systems, data center managers and IT managers will increasingly rely on other criteria when choosing equipment. The cost will remain a distinctive element, but the decision will increasingly depend on the speed of activation and implementation of the resources. Any advantage in this field can be a determining factor in case there is not much difference between all the other factors. This is especially true as computing continues to migrate to the edge in today's distributed networks, where delivery delays mean lost service and lost revenue.
  4. The pay off batteries. In 2016, experts Vertiv have predicted that lithium ions would begin to find space in the data center, an estimate that has proved true since, today, the lithium ions have a significant share in the UPS battery market. This share is growing and begins to spread to the edge sites, where the smaller footprint on the ground and reduced maintenance requirements represent an excellent combination. The next step will be the flexibility of exploitation Lithium-ion and other emerging alternatives for batteries, such as thin plates made of pure lead (Thin Plate Pure Lead, TPPL), to offset the costs. As we enter 2020, more and more organizations will begin to sell the energy stored in these batteries to utility companies to help stabilize the grid and reducing consumption peaks. It is expected that this will be an important issue related to sustainability in the data center industry.
  5. Affirmation of new global trends: The United States, in particular the Silicon Valley, were the epicenter of the digital universe development of this generation of data center, but innovation is happening everywhere. A parallel digital ecosystem with notable differences is emerging in China. Data centers in Europe and other Asian and South Pacific markets, such as Australia, New Zealand and Singapore, are evolving and moving away from traditional methods, based on specific regional issues related to data privacy and controls and sustainability. For example, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) compliance is driving difficult decisions regarding data management around the world. These issues, along with a more vigorous focus on environmental impact, are driving new approaches to hybrid architectures and the value of on-site computing and data storage. In China, some data centers have used 240V DC power in manufacturer-modified servers to improve efficiency and reduce costs. DC power has long been a theoretical goal for US data centers and it is not difficult to imagine that other countries will adopt the model adopted today in China.

Last month Vertiv It announced that it will become a publicly traded company through GS Acquisition Holdings Corp. (NYSE: GSAH, GSAH.U, GSAH WS). Upon completion of the transaction, which is expected to close by the first quarter of this year, Vertiv shares will be traded under the symbol NYSE: VRT.
