The vendor joins the Cyberbreakfast which took place on December 3 on current cyber threats in times of pandemic, encouraging companies to take a mobile-centric Zero Trust approach
MobileIron (NASDAQ:MOBL), the company acquired by Ivanti that offers the mobile-centric security platform for the Everywhere Enterprise, participated in the webinar “Critical infrastructures: analysis of possible cyber threats”, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy (AmCham Italy). The meeting, starting from an analysis of how the pandemic has exacerbated the vulnerabilities of critical infrastructures, developed by proposing innovative visions and models that companies should adopt to face the cyber threats that inevitably affect businesses of every sector and size at a frenetic pace and without stopping.
MobileIron, a member of AmCham Italy, participated as a speaker, for the first time, in the meeting held by the same private non-profit organization, affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce of Washington DC. AmCham Italy has over 500 members, including the largest Italian and US multinationals, and has the mission of developing and promoting economic relations between the two countries, periodically organizing meetings and conferences with the main international decision makers.
The webinar was opened by the speech of Stefano Mele, President of the AmCham Italy Cybersecurity Working Group and Partner of Carnelutti Law Firm, which outlined the criticality of the pandemic scenario caused mainly by the quality of cyber attacks. It emerged that the targets of the malicious actor have become high-profile subjects who often possess information linked to the company's know-how. For this reason it is necessary to pay particular attention to the European regulations in force and to those in approval, such as the European Cyber Security Act, which, through a European certification of the cyber security levels of hardware, software and service products, will allow companies to safely rely on technologies that meet these requirements. At company level, however, the attention paid to this issue must start from the board, progressively moving down towards security, the compliance manager, the general counsel and so on.
In this context, Riccardo Canetta, Regional Sales Director Mediterranean Area of MobileIron, underlined how the mobile device has progressively assumed a central position in the professional and private lives of everyone, both consumer and private users. For this reason, mobile devices are particularly exposed to attacks by cyber criminals and, consequently, must be considered as an extension of the perimeter of the critical infrastructure to be protected. The main problem in using these endpoints is linked to the ease with which cybercriminals can access user passwords and from there move laterally to access other private and corporate data and information.
MobileIron's Zero Trust Mobile Centric model, assuming that the network from which the user connects is not secure, requires as a first step the configuration of the device with all the tools that the user needs to carry out their work (applications, certificates, configurations, restrictions on use and approved policies). Subsequently, before allowing an application to access a service, the context is verified and evaluated together with the device, the user, the network and the application itself. Within this process, it is essential to ensure data protection on devices with vulnerabilities by applying the enforcement of security policies.
“I note that the very large Italian companies have understood the problem well, but this does not apply to all those below the top 5. There is a lack of sensitivity and, in some way, the ability of security to impose itself,” he stated Riccardo Canetta of MobileIron. "Unfortunately, we are still one step behind, many have not yet acquired the awareness that these devices are highly critical and therefore require maximum protection. I believe that it will still take some time before all companies reach this awareness, even in public administration".
