The company enriches the panorama of services and expertise offered with the creation of the Digital business unit, to push innovation to support the business
Axiante, Business Innovation Integrator that supports local and international companies in digital transformation, continues to invest in skills and technologies to help organizations seize new business opportunities, thanks to the availability of innovative and updated applications.
To this end, Axiante has announced the creation of a new business unit, Digital, designed to accompany organizations on the Application Modernization journey. The latter, in fact, constitutes a fundamental process in the life of a company: evaluating the degree of obsolescence of the applications in use and updating old software with more recent IT approaches, modernizing languages, frameworks and platforms, can make the difference at a business level.
"Legacy systems can often represent a brake on new business initiatives. Before moving towards an application update process, however, it is essential to carefully evaluate the relationship between risks, costs and benefits", he explains Mirko Gubian, Global Demand Senior Manager at Axiante. “The definition of business objectives and the identification of applications that impact on Key Performance Indicators (KPI) is specific to each company. Our approach starts from the assessment of business needs, and then identifies the modernization strategies and technological solutions best suited to the individual organization."
In its role as Business Innovation Integrator, Axiante helps organizations address the topic of Application Modernization by taking into account business needs, the resources necessary for implementation and the ROI linked to the investment, as well as the level of risk that the organization is willing to bear to complete the process and all the actions to mitigate the risk itself.
In supporting companies in application modernization projects, Axiante provides a complete set of skills and suggests the best technological solutions to derive value from innovation and exploit all the potential offered by new software languages. Although the cloud is often considered the last frontier for application modernization, thanks to its high scalability and almost infinite computational capabilities, the migration from an on-prem environment to a cloud environment is not in itself sufficient to improve the impact of applications on the business.
On the contrary, it is essential to adopt a methodology capable of differentiating the approaches to be followed for the different applications or application areas. The Application Modernization methodology adopted by Axiante is divided into six phases:
- Business Goal: the first step is to define the business objectives linked to the Application Modernization process, identifying metrics that can be measured through KPIs
- Application Scope: for each objective or group of objectives it is necessary to define which applications have a direct or indirect impact and with what level of criticality
- Modernization Strategy: we proceed with an analysis of the current state and the definition of an ad hoc modernization plan for each of the applications identified
- Risk and Cost Analysis: the risks and costs related to modernization are identified, which must not be considered as an operation as an end in itself, but as an investment for the future of the business
- Execution: it is the actual execution phase, which consists of modernizing the application by adopting one of the different possible strategies
- Measure: after execution it is necessary to monitor that the desired effects - the Business Goals - have been achieved and measure the degree of achievement of the objectives
Thanks to the experience gained in the most diverse sectors, Axiante consultants are able to follow each company in the modernization of a vast application area, which ranges from the sales cycle to budgeting & forecasting, from price optimization to promotions, from management of company spaces to turnover.
The Application Modernization strategy is studied by working in synergy with the company's IT team and business team, evaluating the existing application park, growth objectives and budget constraints. They range from the simplest operations, which consist of providing the app with a new interface (encapsulate), in distributing it on a new platform (rehost) or when updating the basic platform (replatform), to the more complex ones that involve the optimization of the source code (refactor) or the review of the application architecture (rearchitect), until the complete re-engineering of the application (rebuild) or its replacement with a new one (replace).
“Applications are used to support business processes: the priority, therefore, is represented by the needs of the business,” concludes Gubian. "Axiante makes its expertise available to companies, studying the solution tailored to the needs of the individual organisation. We carry out projects with high technical and technological content, but with an approach always oriented towards the business and its objectives".
