With Ivanti Velocity and Ivanti Speakeasy, Mile Hi Companies achieved excellent ROI, including a 68% reduction in overhead costs and a 66% reduction in training time
Ivanti Wavelink, Ivanti's business unit dedicated to supply chain processes, announced that Mile Hi Companies has implemented Ivanti Velocity and Ivanti Speakeasy to modernize the Mile Hi Foods picking process, achieving increased productivity, reduced costs and improved customer satisfaction. Today, Mile Hi Foods efficiently distributes multiple food products to 337 McDonald's restaurants in Colorado and surrounding states.
Previously, Mile Hi Foods used a picking solution to primarily control items and quantities in warehouses. However, the low number of SKUs within distribution centers (for example, Mile Hi Foods' refrigerated case has approximately 40 unique SKUs) often created “code letter memorization” risks, resulting in large product selection errors and major shortages in full or partial orders.
To revamp Mile Hi Foods' picking process, its management team decided to give up fixed-figure picking confirmations and switch to scanning confirmations. The team then revised the picking process with wearable wrist devices and inserted a scanner connected to rings. Through an Internet search, the team viewed a video from Zebra Technologies on the need to update the all-touch terminal emulation system. In turn, Zebra Technologies introduced the Mile Hi team to a sales manager from Ivanti Wavelink, who arranged a demo of the Ivanti Velocity solution and Speakeasy voice enablement.
The Mile Hi team decided to do a project with Ivanti Velocity and Speakeasy that involved capturing screens, identifying screen data inclusions and exclusions, replacing unnecessary or redundant steps, creating custom scripts for GS1-compliant barcodes, customizing screen designs, configuring text-to-speech, and integrating with mobile device management for easy support. Ultimately, the Mile Hi team was able to edit the information to act and appear much cleaner than it would have with the original screen.
"With Ivanti Velocity we can view the screen the way we want, without any scrolling. We were able to fit everything on the screen and eliminate a lot of meaningless secondary data. This way, searchers get the location, item number, a short description and a barcode scan field. That's all we needed," he said Brian Evans, Manager of Continuous Improvement di Mile Hi Companies.
