Vertiv Unveils New Series of Rack Transfer Switches and Lithium-Ion UPSs for Distributed IT Applications and Edge Computing Networks in EMEA

by Grandangolo Communications / Tuesday, 22 November 2022 / Published in Vertiv

The new line of uninterruptible power supplies further expands the Vertiv product range dedicated to IT channel partners

Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, introduced Vertiv™ Geist™ Rack Transfer Switch (RTS), the new series of transfer switches that provides redundant power to devices with a single input, and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) Vertiv™ Liebert® GXT5 lithium ion, designed to be installed on racks or in stand alone mode. The devices are ideal for use in distributed IT networks and edge computing and are now available from stock in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

The Vertiv Geist RTS device automatically detects power loss and switches the load to the alternate source in less than 4 to 8 milliseconds without human intervention, allowing servers and other mission-critical applications to continue operating whether there is a planned or unplanned outage. The Vertiv Geist RTS system is already available in the Basic U modelspgradable and in those equipped with advanced intelligence, as well as in programmable and remotely controlled versions. The Basic U modelspgradable they include the intelligence capabilities required today, with the ability to update the technology as needs evolve. Models with advanced intelligence provide complete visibility into the energy consumption of your most critical IT equipment, available both at the rack level and via remote access.

In addition to providing redundant power, the Vertiv Geist RTS device proactively monitors IT environments, including temperature, humidity and airflow indicators. Users have the ability to improve the performance of monitoring devices by remotely controlling the energy consumption of IT systems. Vertiv Geist RTS can support up to 24 ports for high-density rack configurations.

Available in 1000VA, 1500VA, 2000VA and 3000VA variants, the Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion is a double-conversion online UPS that takes advantage of the higher power density of lithium ions to offer greater autonomy in the same space occupied by a typical VRLA (valve-regulated lead acid) battery. Il Liebert® GXT5 Lithium-Ion also provides the possibility of extending the autonomy cycle thanks to the ability to add up to eight external lithium ion battery cabinets, each 1U, to each UPS.

Lithium ion batteries have an average lifespan of 8-10 years – more or less the same as the UPS – compared to the 3-5 years expected for VRLA batteries, potentially eliminating expensive and complicated battery replacements, together with any maintenance. Lithium-ion batteries are also much lighter than VRLA batteries and perform better in higher temperatures, reducing costs and energy needed for the rack air conditioning system. These specific advantages ensure that customers using Liebert GXT5 lithium-ion batteries can achieve a TCO up to 50% lower than a similar UPS using VRLA batteries for the entire life cycle of the UPS. Furthermore, the Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion is characterized by a superior Power Factor (0.9-1.0) and an efficiency of up to 95% in online mode and even 98% in advanced ECO mode, allowing further energy and cost reductions.

“As edge computing, IoT and 5G are continually developing and forming the new backbone of digitalization processes, distributors and resellers are looking for better-performing solutions to protect the IT infrastructures of small and medium-sized businesses from blackouts,” said Birgit Jackson, director integrated racks and IT solutions at Vertiv in EMEA. “These additions to our IT channel product portfolio provide countless benefits to support the proliferation of edge networks, enabling companies to take advantage of the most innovative technologies and accelerate their digital transformation projects.”

Vertiv™ Geist™ RTS and Liebert GXT5 lithium-ion UPSs are ideal for banking, healthcare, financial services, education, energy, government and transportation industries operating micro data centers, distributed IT networks or edge computing data centers.

These latest innovations in the Vertiv product portfolio for the IT channel allow EMEA resellers in the countries concerned to accumulate additional points through the Vertiv Incentive Program (VIP), Vertiv's incentive program, which allows partners to simply and automatically obtain points, redeemable in vouchers, without having to submit any reporting. Points are uploaded monthly to the Vertiv Partner Portal and the partner simply needs to log in to redeem them.
