Vertiv™ Liebert® XDU provides liquid cooling for high-performance computing (HPC) applications, while supporting waste heat recovery and energy savings
Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, introduced Liebert® XDU, a new generation of thermal management systems that supports liquid-cooled servers and enables control of coolant quality, flow and temperature. With the rise of high-density computing applications, such as data analytics and machine learning, high rack frequencies and temperatures exceed the cooling capabilities of traditional air-cooled units and require more efficient and sustainable solutions. The Liebert XDU cooling system enables the deployment of liquid-cooled server applications in any data center environment, from core processing sites to edge computing sites. The new system is now available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
“High-performance computing applications, such as artificial intelligence and augmented reality, are growing progressively, as data centers strive to reduce their energy consumption and push the industry to find new, more sustainable solutions,” said Roberto Felisi, senior global director and business leader in EMEA for thermal management at Vertiv. Many colocation providers that have traditionally relied on air cooling are now running applications with high-power processors that require more efficient power-saving solutions such as liquid cooling." With Vertiv Liebert XDU, our customers can meet the demand for high-density computing while improving their operational efficiency."
The Liebert The system uses a closed water circuit to avoid any waste and is able to intercept the heat to heat nearby offices, homes or farms, promoting eco-sustainability. Liebert XDU uses latest generation integrated controls to vary the speed of the electric pump to optimize the return water temperature and to provide intelligent monitoring of performance and alerts. The solution is compact and can be placed next to the rack to be cooled or along the perimeter of the structure.
Vertiv developed the Liebert Vertiv has defined a strategic roadmap to improve thermal management technologies that enable the adoption of liquid cooling, in perfect synergy with continuous investments in research and development.
"Liquid cooling is not a new technology, but we now see a real opportunity in the market to drive more innovative thermal management solutions. The Liebert "We look forward to supporting Vertiv's R&D roadmap and combining the company's engineering excellence with RISE's rigorous testing and analysis capabilities in line with our research partnership. The result will be a deeper technical understanding of sustainable and effective approaches for the data center industry."
