The recognition, dedicated this year to Telecommunications, is among the prizes awarded by the Municipality of Genoa to those who have contributed to keeping the name of the city high in Italy and abroad
Netalia, the independent Italian Public Cloud Service Provider, yesterday received the "Cristoforo Colombo" International Communications Award, a recognition given every year by the Municipality of Genoa on 12 October, Genoa and Colombo Day, as a sign of appreciation and gratitude for having contributed to keeping the name of the city high in Italy and abroad.
The Minister for Public Administration, Paolo Zangrillo, presented the award to Netalia, demonstrating the importance that the event, although strongly rooted in the territory, has assumed on a national and international level. The Colombian ceremony took place at Palazzo Ducale, in the Sala del Maggior Consiglio, in the presence of the mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci.
The International Communications Award, named after Christopher Columbus, is awarded every year to the person who has contributed most with a discovery, research, work or initiative, both from a technical-scientific and social and human point of view, to the progress of communications, understood as a means of economic and civil development and of rapprochement and collaboration between peoples.
This year the recognition, specifically dedicated to Telecommunications, rewarded Netalia for having contributed to the digitalisation process of public services for the benefit of citizens and businesses. Netalia is in fact the only national infrastructure qualified by the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) to manage the strategic data of the Public Administration, the most sensitive and delicate ones, offering certified levels of security and reliability of services.
The gold medal with the effigy of Christopher Columbus, delivered by Minister Zangrillo, was awarded to Netalia "for the fundamental contribution made to innovation and digital development made in Italy, guaranteeing Italian companies and the PA the tools for the safe processing and storage of dataThe CEO Michele Zunino and the Chief Revenue Officer Alberto Clavarino collected it on behalf of Netalia.
"Receiving such a prestigious and significant award for the city of Genoa, where Netalia was born, fills us with pride. It is a recognition of the many medium-sized Italian companies that operate well, in an innovative and dynamic way, creating value for the country", he stated Michele Zunino, CEO of Netalia. "We are firmly convinced that, even in Italy, the future of communications passes through the cloud, an enabling factor of digital transformation and an indispensable tool for promoting development and innovation in the public and private sectors. History teaches us that Italy can be a protagonist and pioneer of great discoveries and initiatives. Today the challenge is to regain that primacy, even in the digital field, for the creation of an Italian value ecosystem".
“Netalia proposes a public cloud model that aims to fully protect the interests of citizens and contributes to promoting the competitiveness of Italian companies and public administrations,” he commented Alberto Clavarino, Chief Revenue Officer of Netalia. “The Colombian International Communications Award also confirms that we are on the right path to create a production system that contributes to the digital development of the country”.
The award is proposed by the International Communications Institute chaired by Professor Fabio Capocaccia, who each year chooses three candidates to submit to a special commission, recommended by universities, academies, scientific institutes and bodies, associations and cultural organisations. In the past, companies of the caliber of Leonardo and Fincantieri have been awarded the award.
