The Vertiv™ Trinergy™ UPS is also available as a component of the new Vertiv™ PowerNexus solution, to be combined with the Vertiv™ PowerBoard control device to reduce space requirements and related maintenance
As global electricity demand from data centers is expected will double by 2026Especially given the processing and cooling requirements of AI (artificial intelligence) and HPC (high-performance computing), it is crucial to have a viable backup power solution to ensure the constant availability of the GPUs and CPUs that handle the AI calculations. To overcome these challenges, Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, introduced Vertiv™ Trinergy™, an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) designed to handle the variable load demands of data centers, and Vertiv™ PowerNexus, an integrated solution that offers a compact and space-saving combination between the UPS and the system controller. Both solutions are available globally, highlighting that the Vertiv Trinergy UPS is supplied in 1500, 2000 and 2500 kVA capacities.
Vertiv's most reliable, resilient and efficient UPS in this product range
Vertiv estimates that Vertiv Trinergy is more reliable than Tier IV data center power systems, with an expected uptime of 99.9999998% versus 99.9994%, a difference of 30 seconds of downtime over Vertiv Trinergy's ten years, compared to the eight hours expected for Tier IV data center power systems. The system increases resilience thanks to configurations with extended backup times and the innovative self-isolating core design, with a modular architecture that includes physically separate 500kW cores. Each core includes the components of an online UPS: inverter, rectifier, booster/charger and dedicated and distinct controls, which allow each core to function independently, ensuring uninterrupted energy supply even during maintenance.
“High-capacity power in a highly reliable system design is critical for data-intensive AI and HPC applications,” said Kyle Keeper, SVP of power management global business unit at Vertiv. "Leveraging more than 40 years of innovation, the Vertiv™ Trinergy™ UPS offers the resiliency needed for future applications and to support AI requirements. It offers the flexibility to adapt to various AI applications and is designed to integrate seamlessly with various primary and backup energy sources, lithium-ion and nickel-zinc batteries and distributed alternative energy sources, including fuel cells and long-life batteries (BESS)."
The space-saving design helps reduce maintenance costs
Vertiv Trinergy extends the concept of modularity to all levels of UPS architecture. The modules can be combined to adapt to different types of implementation, achieving significant space savings thanks to their small footprint. It simplifies energy distribution through a single connection point, reducing the need for numerous cables, fittings, bus channels and connections to electrical panels for the UPS units.
Vertiv Trinergy's footprint is further optimized when integrated with the Vertiv™ PowerBoard controller, as part of the new Vertiv™ PowerNexus solution, which come together in a single module connected by internal busbars. This integration also reduces wiring materials, installation time and maintenance costs. Vertiv PowerNexus is also available integrated on site, as a power skid unit or integrated into a cabinet, to provide the flexibility to meet site-specific needs. Vertiv PowerNexus integration is completed in the factory, saving on-site installation time. The integrated Vertiv™ EPMS (energy and power monitoring system) with its energy control makes the system safer, more reliable and more operational, increasing visibility and reducing the number of interconnections.
The UPS is supported by Vertiv Services for Plant Processes and Operations, which includes a new suite of data-driven services, including advanced incident management and condition-based maintenance analytics and Vertiv LIFE efficiency scores.
Power and energy saving
Vertiv™ Trinergy™ offers exceptional double conversion efficiency of up to 97.1%, which further increases up to 99% with Dynamic Online mode, reducing operating costs and energy dissipation. This significantly reduces the consumption of the cooling system, allowing for an overall reduction in TCO and a shorter payback time.
The UPS can guarantee further energy savings, as well as cost savings and the possibility of creating revenues, by taking advantage of the Dynamic Grid Support function, which allows the UPS to intervene in the management of consumption and other network services, where available.
Thanks to continuous duty booster operation, the UPS is able to operate from a continuous power outlet, even at full load, for an indefinite period of time. The UPS is also compatible with Vertiv™'s DynaFlex battery energy storage system (BESS), which can leverage alternative energy sources for backup or primary power as part of a Bring Your Own Power (BYOP) strategy. Replacing diesel generators as backup energy can help reduce the mean time to repair (MTTR) and help reduce CO₂ emissions.
