The new agreement aims to improve efficiency, resilience and deployment times of data centers through integrated energy solutions
Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, and Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT), a global leader in power systems, announced the signing of a strategic commitment to collaborate on advanced energy optimization solutions for data centers. The initiative will integrate the Vertiv's power distribution and cooling portfolio with the products and expertise of Caterpillar and its subsidiary Solar Turbines in power generation and CCHP (Combined Cooling, Heat and Power) to offer pre-engineered architectures that simplify deployment, accelerate time-to-power and optimize the performance of data center operations.
A precious collaboration:
This collaboration directly responds to the growing demand for on-site energy solutions that ensure reliable power and cooling. Together, the companies can offer a fully integrated solution with validated interfaces and performance, allowing customers to accelerate design, installation and implementation.
- Caterpillar and Solar Turbines will provide power generation solutions, such as natural gas turbines and reciprocating engines, to ensure reliable, scalable electric power and thermal energy for CCHP.
- Vertiv will offer a complete portfolio of power and cooling solutions and services, packaged in modular, pre-engineered building blocks to reduce design cycles and standardize implementation.
Benefits for customers:
- Accelerating Time-to-Power – thanks to the use of modular and pre-designed reference architectures that speed up implementation times.
- PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) reduction – allows an improvement in energy efficiency and reduction of the carbon footprint, since the system is optimized end-to-end: power supply, cooling, distribution and dynamic load management, compared to traditional design.
- Global support for the entire lifecycle – the offering is supported by the global and reliable service and support networks of both Vertiv and Caterpillar.
"This collaboration with Caterpillar and Solar Turbines represents a cornerstone of our Bring Your Own Power & Cooling (BYOP&C) strategy and aligns perfectly with our grid-to-chip framework, offering resilient on-site power generation solutions. It is the optimal choice for customers looking to reduce or eliminate their dependence on the electrical grid," said Giordano Albertazzi, CEO of Vertiv. "By combining our technologies, solution portfolio and complementary expertise, we enable coordinated integration. Our pre-engineered and interoperability-tested modules allow customers to design, build and deploy simultaneously, with predictable system performance."
“With the acceleration of AI-driven workloads, the demand for robust and scalable power and cooling infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical,” said Jason Kaiser, group president, Caterpillar Power & Energy. “Partnering with Vertiv will allow us to provide on-site integrated energy solutions that reduce PUE and meet customers' evolving needs.”
The initiative meets the growing demand for on-site energy solutions and offers a coordinated, customer-centric approach to designing and implementing solutions. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Vertiv and Caterpillar marks a crucial step to further refine this ecosystem, enabling customers to overcome energy constraints and deploy optimized AI data centers.
