Vertiv expands IT management portfolio with new KVM switch for secure remote access in enterprise and edge data centers

by Grandangolo Communications / Thursday, 19 February 2026 / Published in Vertiv

Vertiv™ Avocent® MergePoint Unity™ 2 offers enterprise-grade security, scalable configurations and seamless remote access for IT infrastructure management

Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global leader in critical digital infrastructure, introduced Vertiv™ Avocent® MergePoint Unity™ 2, a next-generation KVM platform for secure, centralized management of IT devices across enterprise data center, distributed edge, and branch office environments. Designed to help operators streamline daily operations, respond quickly to issues and maintain system availability, the switch enables remote diagnosis, configuration and recovery, while protecting IT systems from unverified firmware and software.

“As organizations spread workloads across multiple locations, the complexity of infrastructure management grows accordingly,” said Ramesh Menon, vice president of IT systems solutions at Vertiv. “Vertiv Avocent MergePoint Unity 2 provides a centralized point of control with enterprise-grade security, helping IT teams maintain visibility and responsiveness regardless of where their infrastructure is located.”

The new keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) switch complies with FIPS 140-3 cryptographic standards, supporting secure, verified encryption for government and enterprise environments. It offers advanced protection with smart card and Common Access Card (CAC) authentication and user permission controls, allowing IT teams to have a consolidated view of the infrastructure without having to use multiple tools or manage site visits. With built-in Virtual Media capabilities, users can remotely install software and applications, simplifying updates and reducing downtime. The platform also allows remote access to the UEFI and BIOS firmware interfaces for critical system updates and hardware troubleshooting. Additionally, both local and remote users have an intuitive browser-based interface, while hotkey support allows for quick navigation and task execution, improving efficiency and user experience at the rack level.

The KVM features a compact design that when paired with the console Vertiv™ Avocent® Local Rack Access (LRA), occupies just one rack unit, optimizing available space. Can be managed via an integrated web interface for standalone applications or integrated with Avocent's Vertiv™ management platform® MP1000 as part of the Avocent Vertiv™ solution® DSView™ for centralized, enterprise-level control.
