Vertiv SmartMod ™ and Power Modules allow just-in-time installations of modular facilities in response to the power and capacity required.
Vertiv announced the extension of its range of modular features for data center with two families of products designed to offer customers even greater simplicity, efficiency and agility in deploying capabilities for the data center, from core to edge network. SmartMod ™, MAX and SmartMod Vertiv Power Modules are now available in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Availability in other regions, including North America, is expected in the course of 2019.
SmartMod™ e SmartMod MAX di Vertiv
Vertiv SmartMod is a range of easily configurable products that can be ordered immediately as prefabricated modules (PFM) that allow you to add new space to data centers with significantly fewer on-site installation tasks compared to traditionally built data centers. This “plug and play” approach has the advantage of not only minimizing start-up and commissioning times (from weeks or months to a few days), but also reduces potential quality issues, as the components are pre-integrated and pre-tested off-site. The pre-engineered and integrated design also means that SmartMod provides cost certainty for the customer, reducing the potential for additional modifications to be made on site. Additionally, in the case of a multi-unit or multi-site deployment, having a common look, layout and equipment kit simplifies maintenance and operation tasks.
SmartMod is available in a configurable range of IT load capacities from two to twelve racks (600 mm or 800 mm), up to 90 kW of IT load and redundancy architectures up to 2N. Options include variable Liebert® APM uninterruptible power supply (UPS) backup times and electrical and cooling redundancy schemes, including Liebert CRV in-row cooling. For customers requiring more capacity, Vertiv SmartMod MAX offers nearly double the capacity of the basic SmartMod product range – up to 180 kW of IT load and 24 racks.
Vertiv Power Module
In addition to SmartMod, designed to house IT equipment in a completely self-contained system, Vertiv has also made available Power Module, a series of products that include pre-integrated power infrastructure. The easily transportable, weather-resistant Power Module enclosure protects internal components including the Liebert® EXL S1 high-performance UPS and batteries. Furthermore, the Liebert PDX Thermal Management system, specifically indicated for Power Modules, ensures that the equipment maintains optimal operating conditions, extending its life. As with the SmartMod unit, the Power Module comes with a pre-integrated Liebert MC microchannel outdoor capacitor. This avoids the need to install external cooling systems on site and reduces the time from delivery to start-up of the systems.
Power Module is designed to be deployed in new or existing infrastructures that require agile and flexible ways to increase power distribution and resiliency. The module can be deployed outside of an existing infrastructure, without taking up additional floor space that can instead be used for IT equipment. Furthermore, it is “hot scalable”, meaning new capacity can be added to the site simply by connecting new units or adding modular UPSs internally, without having to take critical loads offline. Power Module is available in ratings up to 600 kVA for scalable and modular systems and up to 1200 kVA for fixed capacity systems.
modular Growth
Vertiv SmartMod and Power Modules are designed to meet the growing customer demand for new data center components for PFM, be able to complete and in some cases completely replace, the needs of infrastructure traditionally built.
“We see growing demand for agile data center infrastructures, both in terms of new space and power, that can be deployed quickly while maintaining the same design across all regions,” highlights Viktor Petik, Vice President Global Solutions at Vertiv in EMEA. “With SmartMod and Power Module, Vertiv is building on its proven track record of designing custom modular data centers for customers around the world and is now able to augment that functionality with the added benefits of standardization, cost certainty and a shared user experience.”
According to industry analysts at 451 Research, the PFM data center market will expand at a five-year cumulative annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.4% through 2021, when it will reach $4.4 billion. "The PFM methodology is becoming the preferred way to expand and create new processing power in the data center, ready-to-use systems or critical subsystems. Supported by industrial processes, this solution has distinctive advantages regarding quality control, installation speed and construction uniformity", highlights Daniel Bizo, Principal Analyst at 451 Research. “Vertiv has a strong track record as a provider of bespoke PFM data centers, and SmartMod and Power Module complement that ecosystem at a time when demand for reliable and efficient data center infrastructures of all sizes is increasing.”
