Vertiv adds new models of single-phase uninterruptible power supplies with lithium ion batteries to its wide range of products

by Grandangolo Communications / Monday, 29 April 2024 / Published in Vertiv

The Vertiv™ Liebert lithium ion UPS family® GXT5 expands with international voltage (GV) models from 5kVA to 10kVA for critical applications in EMEA

Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, introduced new UPS Vertiv™ Liebert® GXT5 lithium ion online double conversion from 5kVA to 10kVA (200V-240V; Default 230V) for applications with international voltage (Global Voltage, GV). The expansion of the Liebert GXT5 lithium ion line to 10kVA (from 1-3kVA) further complements the Vertiv portfolio of lithium-ion UPS systems and solutions for edge networks. Vertiv is already fulfilling orders for the new 5-10kVA GXT5 models in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and is proceeding with shipments based on inventory levels.

The Liebert GXT5 lithium-ion models are designed for the small spaces typical of edge environments, with a convertible rack/tower design and a rack footprint of just 3U (5kVA to 10kVA UPS). These GXT5 LI GV models include an integrated maintenance bypass cabinet to save additional rack space. All Liebert GXT5 lithium-ion UPSs are covered by a five-year warranty.

The higher power density of lithium-ion batteries has allowed Vertiv to pack more runtime into a smaller space than a typical UPS with valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries, and runtime can be extended with up to eight external battery cabinets. With improved performance at higher operating temperatures and longer life, Liebert GXT5 Lithium-Ion lithium-ion batteries reduce total cost of ownership by up to 50% compared to VRLA solutions. Additionally, lithium-ion batteries typically last eight to ten years, compared to three to five years for VRLA batteries, reducing or eliminating the cost and inconvenience of battery replacement over the life of the UPS.

“We are thrilled with the new Liebert® Vertiv's GXT5 lithium-ion battery and the benefits it offers to our customers,” said Mike Parham, technical solutions architect at World Wide Technology (WWT). “With improvements including longer range, longer battery life and faster charging compared to VRLA batteries, the solution will help better protect critical infrastructure and reduce support costs.”

“With this expanded offering, Vertiv is poised to capitalize on the strong growth expected for lithium-ion batteries,” said Karsten Winther, Vertiv president for the EMEA region. “The Liebert GXT5 lithium-ion UPS offers compactness, versatility and reduced maintenance, offering itself as an efficient solution perfectly suited for remote sites with minimal on-site technical assistance.”

According to Omdia, the adoption of lithium-ion batteries for UPS in data centers is expected to continue its rapid growth and soon dominate the uninterruptible power supply battery market, reaching 65% of global revenue by 2030.
