The partnership simplifies the process of acquiring Uptime Institute's TIER Certification for structures built using Vertiv's prefabricated modular data centers
Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of infrastructure solutions, announced that its Prefabricated Modular Data Centers (PFMs) have received TIER-Ready certification for performance resilience from the Uptime Institute. The new agreement will allow Vertiv to provide Uptime Institute's Tier Certification of Constructed Facilities (TCCF) services with Vertiv TIER-Ready modular units, thereby providing the benefits of full Tier Certification, directly to customers.
The implementation of Vertiv's PFM models designed as TIER-Ready guarantees the customer the ability to achieve TCCF certification quickly and easily. These modular and prefabricated infrastructures are already available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and there is a goal to make them available globally during 2020.
The TIER-Ready partnership is a strategic agreement whereby Vertiv's specific PFM models are reviewed by the Uptime Institute during the engineering development process, to ensure these solutions meet the stringent requirements of the globally recognized TIER Standard of Topology. Vertiv's PFM products that are TIER-Ready qualified concretely support the availability and uptime requirements of the most demanding customers who have strategically chosen to implement TIER-certified digital infrastructure. As anticipated by the partnership, Vertiv has completed the review of Uptime Institute's TIER-Ready III project for its own infrastruttura PFM SmartMod™ for up to 10 racks and 80 kW of IT load. Facilities implemented using TIER-Ready designated SmartMod solutions will be able to obtain the Uptime Institute's TCCF quickly and easily.
A PFM approach it is an agile and efficient modality that allows the implementation of new data centers with a significantly lower number of on-site installations compared to data centers built in the traditional way. Especially in developing economies, PFM deployments are becoming more frequent because they enable rapid access to additional capacity – even at the Edge – without the impediments of a traditional build process and with more effective systems implementation, testing and commissioning. According to analysts at 451 Research, the PFM data center market is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.4 percent over five years through 2021, when it will reach $4.4 billion.
“The partnership with Uptime Institute ensures that infrastructures using Vertiv PFM data centers that have received Uptime Institute's TIER-Ready qualification are not only agile and efficient to deploy, but also resilient and robust,” said Viktor Petik, vice president of Integrated Modular Solutions at Vertiv. "Vertiv, in collaboration with its partners, can now support customers in developing new highly reliable and available capabilities through the implementation of our Uptime Institute-qualified TIER-Ready III SmartMod system. Once installed, these solutions can quickly and effortlessly achieve full TIER Certification of Constructed Facility certification."
TIER Standard of Topology by Uptime Institute is the de facto industry standard for data center reliability and resiliency, ensuring customers that TIER-certified data centers operate accurately and predictably under a wide range of operating conditions, including utility power failure. The Uptime Institute has introduced its TIER-Ready design review program, which enables PFM vendors to provide solutions that achieve the same levels of reliability and resiliency already achieved by thousands of TIER-certified data centers around the world. The TIER-Ready program streamlines the TCCF certification process by reducing the engineering review time typically required for each specific data center installation. Being a TIER-Ready PFM solution, Vertiv SmartMod 80kW saves in terms of installation time and costs, to the benefit of the end consumer.
"We are thrilled that Vertiv is taking a leading approach to the modular prefab market, not only partnering with Uptime Institute to deliver TIER-Ready products, but also directly supporting the final facility certification process. These solutions differentiate themselves in the PFM market with their proven ability to meet the same resiliency needs seen in larger data centers, while remaining in a modular format," said Chris Brown, CTO of Uptime Institute. "Vertiv SmartMod solutions that are TIER-Ready certified can operate at the same level of TIER resiliency as larger facilities, but in a smaller form factor. This is essential for building distributed critical digital infrastructure."
L’Vertiv infrastructure SmartMod is a fully self-contained, easily configurable and ready-to-order PFM product range, enabling the rapid deployment of new data center free spaces. This “plug and play” approach has the advantage of not only reducing start-up and commissioning times (to a few days instead of weeks or months), but also reducing potential quality issues, as the components are pre-integrated and pre-tested at the factory. The pre-engineered and integrated design also means that SmartMod provides greater cost certainty for customers, reducing the likelihood of further modifications needing to be carried out on site.
