The project follows similar initiatives with the EUDCA and the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact
Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has become a lead sponsor of the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA). Vertiv will provide its experience, international presence and leadership position in several key data center technology areas to support SDIA's mission to bring together key players in the critical infrastructure sector to achieve important sustainability goals.
Founded in 2019, SDIA is a non-profit network of over 65 European and non-European organizations committed to accelerating the transition to sustainable digital infrastructures. All the players in the digital ecosystem are part of it - from energy supply to data centers, from fiber optic networks to software - and it aims to achieve the Roadmap finalized by 2030.
Max Schulze, executive president of SDIA, welcomed Vertiv: "Vertiv's experience and expertise in the critical infrastructure sector, including data centers, is well established. Together we will continue to develop new concepts and technologies to make data centers and zero-impact digital infrastructures a reality."
Commenting on the partnership with SDIA Giordano Albertazzi, President for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Vertiv, declared: "Successfully making the transition towards a sustainable digital future requires the cooperation of a variety of entities, including governments and operators from the world of energy and technology. Vertiv is proud to support an organization like SDIA which acts as a catalyst for all these realities in order to direct everyone's efforts towards a common goal".
Initially Vertiv and SDIA will focus on Europe, currently at the forefront in the development of sustainable technologies, also contributing to regulatory and investment planning.
Vertiv's membership of SDIA follows similar initiatives with organizations such asEuropean Data Centre Association (EUDCA), which Vertiv joined in 2018. As a member of EUDCA, Vertiv is also contributing to Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact recently announced: a major self-regulatory initiative that sets targets to put the cloud and data center industry on track to meet the European Commission's goal of carbon-neutral data centers by 2030 and support the broader European Greel Deal to make Europe the first carbon-neutral continent by 2050.
Joining SDIA is the latest in a series of commitments made by Vertiv regarding environmental, social and governance (ESG) sustainability. Vertiv has recently released a series of high-efficiency products in EMEA such as the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) Liebert® EXM2, il chiller with inverter screw technology and refrigerant with low environmental impact (GWP – Global Warming Potential) Liebert® AFC and the innovative Vertiv™ Liebert® EXL S1 UPS with Dynamic Grid Support functionality which allows highly energy-intensive industries to use UPS proactively to support the transition to green energy sources. Since renewable energy sources still present problems of instability, new solutions are needed to achieve sustainability objectives and at the same time maximize performance and reduce costs. In March 2021 Vertiv also announced that it supported the Norwegian colocator Green Mountain in implementing cutting-edge technologies to further increase the efficiency and sustainability of what was already one of the greenest data centers in the world.
Some of the immediate areas of cooperation between SDIA and Vertiv will include the development of grid-interactive technologies. SDIA, which includes suppliers and operators from the world of data centers and energy companies, will be able to play a central role in the implementation of new solutions that can improve the integration between critical infrastructures and energy networks.
