New Cohesity Data Cloud 7.0 Release Expands Data Management and Security Capabilities to Fight Ransomware Attacks and Data Breaches

by Grandangolo Communications / Wednesday, 08 February 2023 / Published in Cohesity

Cohesity 7.0 improves cyber resilience with enhanced authentication, file and object recovery, and support for more data types

Cohesity, a leader in innovative data management, today announced software release 7.0 of Cohesity Data Cloud. The release provides customers with improved cyber resilience capabilities to help protect and secure data against cyber attacks.

Cohesity announces software release 7.0 at a time when cyber attacks continue to become increasingly sophisticated and customers need a comprehensive cyber resilience strategy to ensure business continuity. Organizations are trying to improve security and data management focusing on a data-centric approach to cyber resilience, which includes data immutability, data isolation (or cyber vaulting), and near-instant recovery at scale. Cohesity addresses the challenges of today's threat landscape and the need for rapid and secure recovery.

With Cohesity 7.0, organizations can strengthen cyber resilience through:

  • Strengthening privileged access: Strengthened access controls for Cohesity Data Cloud enable even tighter control and management of privileged administrative accounts and protection of login credentials. These controls further increase the difficulty for attackers to tamper with backup data. Innovative new differentiators, such as split key capabilities, require multiple person authentication for certain privileged access to administrative controls. No single administrator has the ability to unilaterally issue privileged commands, thus helping to protect data from threats from cyber criminals.

  • Accelerate recovery of files and objects from ransomware: Cohesity, which provides unified services for files and objects on its platform, is also improving cyber resilience capabilities with Cohesity SmartFiles. Powerful new data lifecycle capabilities are designed to reduce the attack surface for data exfiltration, ensuring data is not retained longer than necessary, and customized security policies help further protect unstructured data from unauthorized access and attacks. This new release will also introduce new features for analyzing and visualizing data usage on third-party NAS systems. These data insights will help companies move data to SmartFiles to achieve secure long-term data retention and immutability, while optimizing cost, scalability and performance for the most critical applications.

  • Reduced attack surface thanks to extended platform and workload support: To help enterprises further reduce the attack surface by consolidating multiple products, version 7.0 adds support for AWS GovCloud for data and metadata protection. Additional storage targets are planned for long-term retention and local backup support on third-party platforms, including Lenovo SR645, HPE DL360 and DL380, Cisco UCS C220M6 AFC and C240 M6, and Dell 740XD for private cloud deployments.

"Organizations face significant challenges in managing and protecting their data assets in the cloud and on-premises, with ransomware and data theft becoming major concerns. Data protection and security starts before an attack and provides organizations with the ability to mitigate the damage of an attack and recover quickly, with minimal impact to the business," he said Albert Zammar, Regional Director SON of Cohesity. "Cohesity Data Cloud 7.0 adds a new level of protection and recovery for organizations' most critical data. We see our customers continually threatened by external and internal attackers, and with these latest enhancements they can address these challenges right from the start."

As data volumes rapidly grow, simplicity and efficiency in managing, protecting and recovering unstructured and disparate data can contribute to faster recovery from disruptions and cyber attacks. Extending coverage allows organizations to simplify data resilience with a platform that can support heterogeneous and diverse environments.

“As the threat of cyber attacks persists, one of our top priorities at Path Forward IT is improving resilience and cybersecurity to ensure our data and systems are well protected against threats such as ransomware,” he said Adam Brock, Senior director Backup and Recovery di Path Forward IT. “Cohesity 7.0 will help us connect end-to-end protection with capabilities that enable rapid recovery and business continuity, so our customers can resume business in the event of a cyber attack.”

"Enterprises are looking for simple and effective ways to improve data security and support cyber resilience goals. Given the rapid increase in the number of crippling ransomware attacks, it is imperative that enterprises not only have robust protection against external threats, but also prioritize internal vulnerabilities," he said Randy Kerns, Senior Strategist and Analyst di Evaluator Group. “With the 7.0 release of Cohesity's software, split key and KMS auto-failover capabilities are some of the many cyber resilience solutions Cohesity is adding to its portfolio to provide its customers and partners with a comprehensive strategy for protecting data from cyber attacks.”
