A new information management model is the key to the Netalia project, based on compliant, reliable and secure data governance
2022 marked a change of pace for Netalia, the independent Italian Public Cloud Service Provider: the company recorded a turnover growing by 66% on the previous year and predicts an even more ambitious rate of increase for 2023, not surprisingly the symbolic year of the "great migration" to the Cloud of the Italian Public Administration.
There are two pillars on which a business idea born way back in 2010 - according to the parameters of the sector - and which has now become a national reference company for its segment: the first concerns the service delivery model, i.e. the Public Cloud; the second concerns the perimeter of action, which corresponds geographically and by law to it national.
“The Public Cloud is the most suitable model to accompany a micro and macro economic development path: it is flexible and scalable virtually without limits, minimizes lock-in risks and eliminates those of technological obsolescence, and can be easily integrated into hybrid and multi-cloud solutions, the most widespread and sought after”, he states Michele Zunino, Founder and CEO of Netalia.
It is then essential that the entire infrastructure supply chain resides in Italy. Making good decisions has always depended substantially on two factors: the quantity and quality of the information available and the ability to process it well and quickly. “In the third millennium, archive size and computing power are inextricably linked to technology: whoever controls it has won the competition of competitiveness and innovation,” continues Zunino. “For this reason, the national sovereignty it is not formal protectionism: it is the defense of an entire production system, against any eventuality. A necessity that today's very delicate geopolitical balances demonstrate every day."
Thinking from the perspective of system is another distinctive trait of Netalia: if no man is an island, even less so are a company or an institution, especially in an always-on and hyper-connected era. Operating in the field of digital networks and infrastructures means taking on a social, economic and political responsibility in the broadest sense of the term. "Our policy maker, even at a European level, seem to have finally understood the strategic importance of a Cloud Computing infrastructure. In Italy, an example of this is the birth of the National Strategic Pole, in the context of the many important missions of the PNRR. Netalia is available to the executive as an interlocutor and aggregator of needs and solutions, in a collective vision attentive to the needs of the entire ecosystem", concludes Zunino.
Market demands are subject to the law of constant change, typical of a VUCA world. In this context, Netalia does not position itself as yet another technological operator, because technology no longer makes the difference in terms of productivity. It is business logic and processes that change and determine the direction. Applied to the Cloud, this translates into a shift in focus along the value chain that Netalia intercepted early and is returning to a market that is still partially unaware of its needs. The most substantial core of information management is in fact shifting from physical and virtual infrastructures (IaaS) to the architectures that make up the platforms (PaaS), up to virtualized services (SaaS), and it is at those higher levels that the new functions and new processes that allow organizations to grow and improve converge and are developed.
"Even in the Cloud, skills eat technology for breakfast: if IT - including Data Centers - is increasingly a commodity, the ability to interpret specific needs and accompany change step by step and in a personalized way is the real success factor. For our customers and for Netalia itself, which is growing more and more convincingly through a certified, secure and highly available national Public Cloud".
