Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, and ZincFive®, a global leader in nickel-zinc (NiZn) battery solutions for direct-power applications, say Vertiv will add ZincFive's BC Series uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery cabinets to its portfolio of battery systems available for data center backup power. The safe and recyclable nickel-zinc batteries are compatible with select large and medium-sized Vertiv™ UPSs, including the recently launched Vertiv™ Trinergy, as a backup energy storage source, complementing the company's commitment to enabling customers to minimize the environmental impact of their data centers. The cabinets for batterie UPS ZincFive BC Series are available today from Vertiv in North America and Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
The BC series of battery cabinets for UPS by ZincFive, is the first nickel-zinc battery solution for energy storage that is completely compatible with both existing UPS models in the megawatt range and future ones. The BC Series offers the industry's smallest footprint compared to VRLA and lithium-ion batteries and minimal maintenance requirements. The NiZn chemistry ensures reliable operation, with the battery cells remaining conductive even in the event of discharged or worn batteries. Furthermore, according to a study by Boundless Impact and commissioned by ZincFive, ZincFive's NiZn batteries have a significantly lower end-to-end environmental impact than lead-acid and lithium batteries, as validated by an analysis by independent experts.
Tim Hysell, CEO and co-founder of ZincFive, said: "Our constant commitment to innovation shines through in our powerful, safe and reliable nickel-zinc battery technology. The BC Series is the ideal solution to meet the evolving needs of data centers, both today and for the future. Additionally, the importance of sustainability in data center backup battery systems is increasing, aligning perfectly with the values shared by ZincFive, our partners and our customers. We We work to minimize CO₂ emissions and operating expenses without compromising safety or performance.”
“Vertiv and ZincFive want to enable reliable and efficient data centers around the world, providing greater access to data, with less waste and better energy efficiency,” said Milind Paranjape, Vertiv senior director for Energy Storage. “Vertiv has already implemented the ZincFive product at several sites for major companies operating in the data center sector.”
Paranjape also said the technology is an excellent solution for customers who need to deal with local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) regarding National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and the International Fire Code (IFC).
