Vertiv presents in EMEA the expansion of the high-capacity, low-GWP free cooling range for high-density data centers for AI and Machine Learning

by Grandangolo Communications / Tuesday, 01 October 2024 / Published in Vertiv

The evolution of the Vertiv™ Liebert® AFC chiller family now offers the highest single-frame cooling capacity in the industry, with a maximum power of 2.2 MW

Vertiv, (NYSE: VRT), a global provider of critical digital infrastructure and uninterruptible power solutions, introduces high-capacity models from its inverter screw chiller range to the market Vertiv™ Liebert® AFC with low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant. Available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the new models provide up to 2.2 MW of cooling capacity in a single chassis, reducing the CO₂ footprint, the number of units to be installed based on capacity and allowing data center operators to also reduce installation and maintenance time, costs and costs.

The all-new Liebert® AFCs are high-density, outdoor, free-cooling chillers that offer the highest capacity in the industry in a single chassis. Ready for future challenges, these chillers enable hybrid mode operation for data centers implementing AI and HPC liquid cooling applications and comply with EU regulatory requirements. The chiller is an integral part of Vertiv's complete solution to simplify data center deployment and management. Combining Liebert AFC chillers with chilled water solutions such as the perimeter air treatment system Vertiv™ Liebert® PCW, the unit of Vertiv™ Liebert® XDU refrigerant distribution, the Thermal Wall system Vertiv™ Liebert® CWA and intelligent control Vertiv™ Liebert® iCOM™ CWM, operators can efficiently address the cooling needs of data center colocation and cloud applications.

“As demand for AI and HPC installations increases, customers are increasingly looking for solutions that provide greater cooling capacity in a smaller footprint,” said George Hannah, senior global director for chilled water systems at Vertiv. "Our newest low-GWP Liebert AFC chillers reach up to 2.2 MW, with a footprint that significantly reduces the time, cost and complexity of implementing these systems. This solution confirms our commitment to environmental responsibility and compliance with the latest regulatory standards, and aligns with our goals of maintaining industry leadership in air and liquid conditioning applications."

Vertiv™ Liebert® AFC helps reduce energy consumption by up to 20% per year compared to static screw solutions. The inverter-driven compressor helps reduce energy consumption and, in particular, the electrical power required during peaks, which in turn allows for greater energy availability for IT equipment. The innovative regulation algorithms offer accurate control of the fluid supply temperature to the internal units, improving air conditioning continuity and reliability. The unit is designed to run on a more environmentally friendly refrigerant, R1234ze HFO, allowing data center operators to comply with the EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573 and customers to support key sustainability goals.
